What you can edit with this BL4 save editor
Use the BL4 save editor above to change a Borderlands 4 PC Steam or Epic save in your browser. Import a character or profile.sav, enter its owning account ID, and choose the controls for the changes you want. The editor creates a separate download, so you decide when to replace your local file.
| Character save | profile.sav |
|---|---|
| Cash, Eridium, level, XP and remaining skill points | Max SDUs, shared bank items and favorite flags |
| Add, delete or level backpack items | Add, delete or level bank items |
| UVHM ranks 1–5 and post-game activities | Vault Powers and Hover Drives |
| Unlock and maximize specializations | Cosmetics and new-character level-30 shortcuts |
| Complete story or side missions for base game, DLC or both | Shared map fog, discovered locations and fast travel |
| Map progress, collectibles, activities, challenges and achievement progress | Shared collectible and activity progress |
| Change class and edit full YAML | Edit full YAML and download the profile |
Cash and Eridium are separate balances. Set the resource you need for purchases rather than putting one amount in both fields. Level and XP are linked: setting the level can update XP, while setting XP derives the corresponding level. Review both before applying the change. The editor's current BL4 character and item level range is 1–70; match your installed game's progression.
Remaining skill points are distinct from points already allocated in your trees. The ordinary points control adjusts the unspent balance. Use the class-change control when you want another Vault Hunter class, and inspect the build afterward. Inventory, Progress and Advanced let you work on equipment, unlocks and the full save without changing pages.
How to edit your Borderlands 4 save in 3 steps
Back up your saves. Exit Borderlands 4, finish current cloud synchronization, and copy the account folder outside the live save tree. Include numbered characters and
profile.sav.Import the file and account ID. Choose a character
.savorprofile.sav, enter its owning Steam ID or Epic ID, and check the imported summary. Download the original backup.Preview, apply and download. Make the changes, inspect the preview and apply them. Use Undo or Reset to step back. Download the edited save and replace the matching local file with the game closed.
The browser creates a separate download. Before copying it into the save folder, remove any download suffix and retain the original slot filename. Follow the complete Borderlands save-editing tutorial for replacement and recovery.
Where is the Borderlands 4 save file?
Steam character saves normally live in C:\Users\<Windows-user>\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\SaveGames\<SteamID64>\Profiles\client\. Epic saves use the same Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\SaveGames\ root, followed by the account folder and Profiles\client\.
Numbered files such as 1.sav and 2.sav represent characters. Look one level above client, in Profiles, for profile.sav. Copy the full account folder for a backup so the shared profile and character files stay together.
If Windows redirects Documents to OneDrive or another drive, open Documents from File Explorer's sidebar and follow the folder tree there. The Steam installation folder is a different location from the usual save folder. For the complete paths, missing-folder advice and cloud restore steps, open Borderlands 4 save file location.
How to find your Steam ID or Epic ID
For Steam, copy the 17-digit number from the account folder containing your save, or open Steam account details. Use all 17 digits. Your display name and custom profile URL are different identifiers.
For Epic, open Epic account settings and copy the 32-character Epic Account ID. It uses hexadecimal characters: digits and letters A to F. Use the account that owns the game and save, rather than its email address, display name or SHiFT identifier.
The ID derives the key that decrypts and re-encrypts your BL4 file. It is not a password, and the editor does not require a Steam or Epic login. The ID and save stay in your browser. If decryption fails, check the owning account and copy the complete ID again.
Edit items with BL4 item serial codes
BL4 item serials commonly start with @Ug and use Base85 characters, including punctuation. Copy every character. BL2(...) and BL3(...) codes belong to different games and cannot be pasted as BL4 serials.
Open Inventory and paste one or more serials into Add items. Put each complete code on its own line, choose the backpack or bank appropriate to the imported file, and preview the new entries. Character files carry backpack items; profile.sav holds shared bank items.
Select an existing entry to copy its code, change its level, delete it or change its favorite flag. Use the batch level control to set the selected inventory's items to your character level or a chosen level. A character-level edit and an item-level edit serve different purposes, so review both when rebuilding a character.
Browse 112 BL4 item serial builds covering 20 named item designs. The directory labels scope, grip and level variants explicitly so you can compare builds of the same weapon. Copy one code or select several and send the list to the BL4 editor. Use the BL4 serial decoder for readable token text, level and part details.
Keep the original serial when replacing a valued item. An item code defines equipment; your save also stores its inventory position and flags. Retain the whole-file backup when editing a collection, especially if you also change shared storage or progression.
Unlock UVHM, specializations and max SDU
The UVHM preset unlocks Ultimate Vault Hunter ranks 1–5 and the post-game activities, including the firmware system, Maurice's Black Market and Moxxi's Big Encore. Select the unlocked rank in the game. Raising character level alone does not open these progression systems.
The specialization preset unlocks the specialization system and maximizes its trees. Specialization progress is separate from ordinary character XP and skill points. Review the preset alongside your existing build rather than treating an ordinary point edit as a specialization unlock.
Import profile.sav for Max SDU, Vault Powers, Hover Drives and cosmetics. Max SDU applies the profile's storage upgrades. The new-game shortcut preset enables starting new characters at level 30 with the story already complete; it does not replace the level control for an existing character.
Story, maps and completion presets
Choose story missions, side missions or all missions, then select base game, DLC or both. Completing the selected missions lets you skip that part of progression. Set the character level and equipment separately for the point at which you intend to resume playing, and keep the backup if you want to replay those missions later.
Map controls separate terrain fog, location discovery and fast travel. Revealing terrain clears the map overlay; discovering locations adds the saved discoveries; fast travel opens its destinations. Use the profile for shared progression and the character controls when working with individual progression.
Collectible and activity presets work by category as well as completion scope. Challenges and achievement progress have their own presets. Choose the specific set you want rather than applying every completion button to a character whose story you still plan to play.
Edit full BL4 YAML in Advanced
Advanced exposes the full decrypted YAML for direct editing. Preserve its structure, make the intended change and read any syntax message beside the editor. Download an encrypted .sav for the game or a .yaml copy for further text editing. Keep the original save before changing fields by hand.
Character save vs profile.sav
Import a numbered character file for that Vault Hunter's level, XP, currencies, ordinary skills, missions or carried equipment. Import profile.sav for shared bank data, SDUs, cosmetics, Vault Powers, Hover Drives and account progression. The editor recognizes the type and shows its corresponding controls.
Keep the profile and numbered characters together in a folder backup when editing shared progression. Restoring one character does not roll back the shared profile. Steam and Epic account folders are separate, and moving a BL4 file to another folder does not change its encryption identity.
Favorite controls change item flags. Enabling favorite clears conflicting trash and color labels; disabling it leaves other flags alone. Read those linked changes in the preview, particularly when organizing shared bank items.
Back up and restore your Borderlands 4 saves
Make an independent folder backup before editing, then download the imported original as another copy. Undo and Reset affect browser changes. Restoring a file already replaced on disk requires copying your saved original back into place.
Close the game before replacement or restoration: a running game can keep a loaded save in memory and write it back later. Finish existing cloud synchronization, then pause it while deliberately replacing a local file. Steam exposes the game's Cloud setting in Properties; Epic offers cloud-save settings for supported games.
If a launcher presents a conflict, choose the copy containing your intended changes. Compare the character slot, account folder, backup and modification time. Resume synchronization after reviewing the local state you want to keep, and retain an independent backup outside the live folder.
To restore, close the game and copy the original into the same folder and filename. Restore profile.sav too when rolling back shared data. Keep edited outputs separately if you want to return to them later.
BL4 save editor FAQ
Is this BL4 save editor free?
Yes. The Borderlands 4 save editor is free to use in your browser. No installation, payment or website account is required.
Does it work with Epic Games saves?
Yes. Use a Borderlands 4 PC Epic save and the owning 32-character Epic Account ID. Steam saves use the owning 17-digit Steam ID.
Why does the editor need my Steam ID or Epic ID?
BL4 uses the account ID to derive its save-encryption key. The editor uses the ID locally to read and write your file; it does not need your password or an account login.
Can I edit PS5 or Xbox Series saves?
Use this editor for PC Steam and Epic saves. PS5 and Xbox Series save containers use platform encryption and cannot be imported as PC character files.
Will editing my save get me banned?
Keep save edits for your own single-player game. Avoid bringing obviously overpowered or altered equipment into public multiplayer, follow the game's service rules, and always retain an original backup.
How do I add items with serial codes?
Paste complete BL4 Base85 serials into Add items in Inventory, with one code per line. Add them to the character backpack or profile bank, review the new entries, and apply the change before downloading.
What's the max level supported by this BL4 editor?
The current BL4 character and item level cap in this editor is 70. Set levels within the range supported by your installed game version.
Is my save uploaded anywhere?
No. Your save and account ID stay in your browser during editing. Original backups and edited saves are generated locally as downloads.
Save editors for other Borderlands games
Use the Borderlands 3 save editor for BL3 character and profile files, or the Borderlands 2 save editor for BL2 character files and Gibbed-style item codes.
The supported features page lists the available games, platforms and controls. Read what's new for feature updates and privacy for local processing and downloads. If you need files for another game, use the BL3 save location guide or BL2 save location guide.
